The Amsterdam based songwriter won Promising Titans’ fourth Song of the Year Contest with its single, ‘Trust Me’. Borka Balogh is the first-ever female winner.
After 3 years of psy-noise rock band dominance, a young singer-songwriter won the Hungarian underground music blog, ‘Ígéretes titánok’ aka Promising Titans’ Song of the Year Contest in 2018. It’s also a pleasure to announce that the Amsterdam based performer, Borka Balogh is the first-ever female artist who could become first place. And I can say, as I did it on her debut article:
Her single, ‘Trust Me’ is definitely the strongest point of her first-ever EP, ‘Traces Of You’, no doubt. It’s all fair and square. You can check it out even on ‘Endless mode’
It was tough but more balanced competition than the previous ones. She took the lead, in the beginning, thanks to the vote from the Lowlands and from other countries. (So it was the first bit international voting in our blog’s History.) But we have to congratulate every band – especially The California Nightmare and Kijube, which became second and third with also cool campaigning. We wanna thank you to the eager audiences of Aviary, The Royal Freak Out, lastdayflyers, TPSRPRT, DRMRZ, Madrapur, and Jafari.
But I also have to say, it was more than a competition, as we did it from 2015. We also wanted to show you what was happening in the Hungarian underground & newcomer music scene in 2018. So our compilation was a representative selection based on bands mostly featured in our articles last year. It was also important that we tried to put different kinda songs – making sure that there is a diversity of genres, style, atmosphere & lyrics (and language). I guess we did it. And it’s cool to see that after three psy-noise rock bands – Deep Glaze, DLRM and Ljubljana – a female artist could win our competition.
Thanks for your votes, I hope you enjoyed it. So see’ya Borka’s playing at Campus Festival 2019 and Művészetek Völgye (Valley of Arts) and also performing this year with an international formation by our collaboration with New Beat collective in Budapest.
So nothing left just listening to the winner – if you missed it before. Have a cool 2019 and read & follow us 🙂

If you wanna know more about Borka, read our interview from last February:
Borka Balogh is living in Amsterdam, but her heart is full of Hungarian folk rhythms. Her songs are intimately adorable. Here comes her first ever EP. Premiere.
