If you wanna check out some cool Hungarian bands at Sziget Festival. Click here!

Are you interested in some local taste? You are in the right place, here is our recommendation of Hungarian bands. Sziget Festival 2018 menu for foreigners.

We know, Sziget is not about Hungarian bands, but if you wanna listen and check out some promising local stuff, here is a list. We selected formations operating with English lyrics because we know our language is so-so-so-so strange (and harder to learn than Chinese & Japanese together) and unique (probably only aliens from Mars can understand it), but we recommend an absolutely weird Hungarian time-travel stuff at the end.

Plus an extra gig by Animal Cannibals which will be hot because of Kate McKinnon’s latest Hungarian ‘rap performance’ at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon 😀

Gigs mostly start a bit early but don’t be afraid, they are all worth a try.

Dan Panaitescu Main Stage

Apey & the Pea – 09/08 • Thursday, 4pm

Tough like hell. If you like influences like Pantera, Crowbar and the classic doom/thrash & grunge scene, it’s your band. The trio is so powerful, no words for it. And if you wanna listen to some airy guitar music, check frontman, András Áron ‘Apey’s solo gig on 14/08 • Tuesday from 5.30pm at Ticketswap Music Box. (It’s like a small Louisiana in the middle of Europe.)

Európa Stage

Run Over Dogs – 10/08 • Friday, 4.30pm

Desert Rock, they say, but it’s more, I presume. If you are a huge fan of distorted (post-grunge kinda) guitar music, you must check’em out. If they are in good shape, the whole gig will be an endless vision. I guess, traveling with them is inevitable.

Darjeeling – 14/08 • Tuesday, 3.15pm

Big Ben, Wembley, Fish & Chips and The Beatles. Although the United Kingdom seems to be far from here, this band brings a tiny taste of Albion to Hungary. They had a very promising start, published some interesting videos. The group modestly reveals only three things in their bio: original songs, English lyrics, and electric guitars, but believe us, there’s a lot more to them. Here is their latest one:

[If you wanna read more about them, you can check our English articles ► HERE and HERE.]

Petőfi Rádió – Telekom VOLT Fesztivál Stage

Fran Palermo – 10/08 • Friday, 7.45pm

They started six years ago and they are growing fast. They are really cool with a very interesting & multilayered sound. If you like’em, you can also check frontman, Henri Gonzo’s solo live gig before their show from 5pm at Ticketswap Music Box.

Dope Calypso – 11/08 • Saturday, 3pm

Powerpunk-stylish crazy hardshit. No words for it, just go and enjoy the feeling. They are absolutely insane, it will be more than a simple gig.

Ivan & The Parazol – 12/08 • Sunday, 6pm

Pure, awesome rock & roll from the ’70s with modern vibes and spices. They wrote & performed the Official Anthem of Sziget Festival in 2014. They started with English lyrics, now bilingual but even if you don’t understand some of the lyrics, you must check’em out. [If you wanna know more ► HERE is our latest interview with frontman, Iván Vitáris about touring in America, recording in LA and the benefits of showcase festivals.]

Belau – 13/08 • Monday, 4.30pm

New wave synthpop kinda style with a massive and outstanding visual support. I have to say, it’s not only a audio but an audiovisual orgasm. They are touring all around Europe right now, so don’t miss it 🙂 Here is their latest vintage music video released not long ago with the collaboration of Austrian band, Leyya’s singer, Sophie Lindinger.

DUNGAREE – 14/08 • Tuesday, 3pm

Hard guitars from Szeged, DUNGAREE has a cool run now. They recorded their latest album with the Grammy awarded producer, Liam Watson. If you wanna listen to some ‘more than a Hard Rock’ kinda music, it will be your gig 😉

Sláger FM Stage (!!!)

So. If you wanna feel the Hungarian discoshit of the ’90s, you definitely must be here after 10pm. You don’t have to know anything or understand even a word of it, just watch & listen. Feel the vibe. I guess it will be one of the weirdest experiences in your whole life. To know what is all about, check this:

Aaaaaaaaannnndddddd, if you wanna listen to the song, ‘Yozsefváros‘, which was performed not long ago by Kate McKinnon at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, you should definitely catch the original performers, Animal Cannibals 😀 They will perform on 13/08 • Monday 1am (Okay, technically it will be Tuesday), but I presume, rapping with them is inevitable now 😀
